What shapes the cost of an Ohio University placement

Why every quote is individual
Placements inside a single Ohio University program can differ enormously. An FNP student near Columbus looking for a primary-care office for NRSE 6840, with a full term to spare, is a different job from an AG-ACNP student living in a rural county who must find a critical care unit for NRSE 6843, a course Ohio University's tentative offerings list for fall only. A current APRN starting a post-master's certificate adds another variation: Ohio University's PMHNP certificate page says those students will more than likely move straight into a clinical course in their first semester, so the search starts before classes do.
One posted rate would fit neither of them well. So we price each placement once we know the course, the setting and the calendar, and your quote sets out the scope in writing before you decide. The six factors below are the ones that move it.
The six factors in a quote
No single factor decides the quote. A primary-care search can still be demanding in a thinly served county, and an acute care search can be simple when you already work inside the right hospital.

Timing and urgency
The calendar matters because Ohio University's is fixed. Graduate clinical packets are due seven to nine weeks before each term, and Ohio University's Important Dates page lists earlier application dates for Cleveland Clinic, Holzer, Mount Carmel and OhioHealth. A student who contacts us a term ahead gives us time to compare several preceptors and to use a hospital window if one fits. A student who writes after those windows have closed still has options, mostly community practices and health centers that can agree directly, but the work is compressed into fewer weeks. You can ask for a quote covering one course or your whole practicum sequence, and planning the sequence early usually leaves each later search with more room.
Waiting to ask for a quote until the term is close rarely saves anything. Early contact keeps more sites open and the search calmer.
Costs set by Ohio University or the site
Some expenses in a clinical term belong to other parties. Ohio University's MSN FAQ says of the centralized processes larger hospital systems run: "Fees may apply." No ohio.edu page states an amount or who charges it, and each system sets its own terms. OhioHealth's student FAQ, for example, mentions a fee for the student badge, and University Hospitals' system-wide process uses an ACEMAPP subscription. Those charges are separate from our quote.
Your own pre-clinical requirements are separate too. Ohio University asks graduate students for proof of health status and immunizations, BLS, state and federal background checks and malpractice insurance before clinicals begin, and its DNP pages add that NP-track students need nurse practitioner malpractice insurance, with employer coverage not accepted. - the course or courses covered, by NRSE number and term;
- the setting and area we will search;
- confirmation of the preceptor's interest and availability before you are introduced;
- preceptor and site details prepared to match your clinical packet;
- tracking of any hospital-system window that applies;
- what happens if a preceptor steps away during the semester.

Why is there no price list on the site?
One figure could never fit every placement fairly. A primary-care search near a city with a term to spare and an acute care search in a rural county weeks before the packet deadline are different jobs. A quote built on your track, course, location and timing reflects the work your placement actually needs.
Are hospital-system fees part of your quote?
They sit outside it. Ohio University's MSN FAQ notes that fees may apply to the centralized processes large hospital systems run, and each system sets its own charges. When a system site is part of your plan, your placement advisor points out any requirement we know about so you can budget for it alongside our quote.
Does the quote change if I need a preceptor quickly?

Can I get a quote before I am admitted?
Yes. Ohio University's PMHNP certificate page advises current APRNs to have possible preceptors and sites in mind when applying, so early planning is normal. Tell us your intended track and first clinical term, and your placement advisor quotes from there.
Does asking for a quote commit me to anything?
