Which Ohio University students we help
Our work centers on Ohio University students who choose their own preceptors. That covers the online graduate programs: the MSN tracks in Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP, Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health NP; post-master's certificates in AG-ACNP, FNP and PMHNP plus the newer Emergency NP certificate; the MSN-to-DNP; and two MSN tracks outside NP practice, Nurse Educator and Nurse Leader.
RN-to-BSN students are included too. Ohio University's course pages for NRSE 4585 and NRSE 4595 say securing a preceptor is the student's responsibility unless the clinical site specifies otherwise. Campus BSN students work differently: Ohio University's bachelor's page says each senior is assigned a preceptor nurse in a hospital setting. Ohio University, not Ohio State
Every page on this site is about Ohio University, the university in Athens, Ohio, at ohio.edu. Its nursing programs belong to the School of Nursing, part of the College of Health Sciences and Professions. Online study runs under the OHIO Online name, and graduate on-campus intensives are held in Dublin, Ohio.
It is a separate school from The Ohio State University (osu.edu), and from Miami University, Ohio Northern, Ohio Christian and Ohio Dominican. Search results mix these names up often, so check that any rule you read comes from an ohio.edu page. Each of our guides lists the Ohio University sources it relied on at the foot of the page.
Starting early, even before admission
You can contact us at any stage. MSN NP students usually begin planning while taking NRSE 7230 Advanced Health Assessment, the course Ohio University describes as the last one before clinicals. The first packet deadline then arrives weeks before the first practicum starts.
Certificate applicants can need a preceptor sooner. Current APRNs joining Ohio University's PMHNP certificate are likely to begin a clinical course in semester one, so that page wants them applying with "possible preceptors and sites in mind." The same page points them to graduatenursing@ohio.edu for their program's overview sheets and preceptor packet.
How we work alongside Ohio University
Every preceptor and site needs Ohio University faculty approval, and each NP clinical also has a clinical supervisor assigned by the school. The Graduate Clinical Coordinator is there to assist with placements, and the School of Nursing inbox fields placement and paperwork questions. Our role sits beside all of that: we find and confirm preceptors, then prepare their details so the file you hand faculty is complete.
Using more than one route at once is common. If the School of Nursing is also helping you, tell your placement advisor, and tell the school who else is involved, so each clinician hears one request. The who does what page maps each Ohio University role.
Your Ohio University accounts and documents
Your student systems stay in your hands. Ohio University uses Typhon for the graduate uploads tied to program requirements and placements, following School of Nursing instructions, and Canvas as its learning management system. You make those uploads from your own account.
What we supply is the content: preceptor credentials, license information and site details, organized the way the clinical packet asks for them. When a site needs a specific compliance item from you, such as proof of BLS or malpractice insurance, your placement advisor tells you which one and why.
How your details are kept
Information you give us is used to arrange your placement: searching for preceptors and sites, preparing what faculty review, and sending your quote and updates. When you ask us to arrange a placement, a prospective preceptor or site receives only the details they need to consider you, and inside the placement desk access is limited to the people helping you.
Keep health records and background-check results out of forms and chat unless we ask for a specific item. You can ask for your information to be deleted at any time through the contact form or the chat. The privacy policy explains what the site collects and which tools process it.
Questions Ohio University students ask
Do you help Nurse Educator and Nurse Leader students?
Yes. Both MSN tracks carry 500 practicum hours at Ohio University. Nurse Educator practicums run in NRSE 7940 and NRSE 7941, in academic and direct care settings with qualified preceptors. Nurse Leader practicums run in NRSE 6850 and NRSE 6851, in a leadership role at a health care facility near you, where faculty approve the preceptor and a clinical supervisor is assigned.
Can you find an emergency department preceptor for the Emergency NP certificate?
Yes. The certificate's clinical courses, NRSE 6857, NRSE 6858 and NRSE 6859, are held in hospitals or emergency care facilities. Ohio University's own figures for total hours differ, 450 in the catalog against 500 on the program page and launch story, so confirm yours with faculty. The Emergency NP courses page sets out both.
Do you help MSN-to-DNP students find a preceptor-mentor?
Yes. Ohio University's DNP FAQ has faculty supervising the hours alongside a preceptor or mentor, and says faculty "work closely with students" when that person and the setting are chosen. We find candidates whose practice suits your project and your NRSE 8920 or NRSE 8921 hours, so you and your faculty have real options to weigh.
Can you help RN-to-BSN students?
Yes. The RN-to-BSN clinicals total 31.5 hours across NRSE 4585 and NRSE 4595. Ohio University's course pages say the preceptor must hold at least a BSN, carry an active nursing license in the state where both you and the facility are, and not be a close relative. The Preceptor Agreement is due well before the course starts; see the RN-to-BSN page.
What if I change my mind about a preceptor?
Tell your placement advisor as early as possible. Before faculty approval, switching simply means continuing the search. After approval, a new preceptor goes back through faculty like the first one, so a change late in the calendar has to beat the same deadlines. We start looking right away and prepare the new details in packet order.
What if I fall out of sequence?
Ohio University's Important Dates page says a student who removes a graduate nursing course goes out of sequence and needs a new program of study. Once you have the revised plan, send it to your placement advisor and we re-time your searches around the new terms. The out-of-sequence page explains how the rule works.
Will a clinical site ask about Ohio University's accreditation?
Some do. Ohio University's nursing programs hold CCNE accreditation at four levels (baccalaureate, master's, DNP and the post-graduate APRN certificate), and CCNE's directory lists the current term through December 31, 2031. Ohio University's accreditation page names CCNE but not those dates, so point a site to the CCNE directory if it asks for them.
