Ohio University nursing programs and the practicum each one needs
Ohio University's nursing programs ask for very different practicums, from 750 direct care hours in each online NP track to 31.5 clinical hours in the RN-to-BSN. The preceptor each program needs
The three NP tracks need very different people. FNP students train in primary-care offices and community clinics, AG-ACNP students with acute-care physicians and advanced practice providers in critical care, hospital medicine and emergency units, and PMHNP students in mental health agencies, correctional settings, school-based centers or substance-use programs. The Emergency NP certificate needs an emergency department.
DNP students choose a preceptor-mentor with faculty for their practice hours and project, Nurse Leader and Nurse Educator students need a leader or educator in the right setting, and RN-to-BSN students secure a preceptor for two short clinical courses. Pick your program below for the full picture.

How many clinical hours are in Ohio University's online FNP?
750 direct care hours, split into three 250-hour practicums: NRSE 6840, NRSE 6841 and NRSE 6842. The PMHNP and AG-ACNP tracks also require 750. See the FNP hours guide.
Does Ohio University still offer BSN-to-DNP NP tracks?
The 2026-27 catalog still lists them, but the public DNP application lists only the MSN-to-DNP, and the old BSN-to-DNP page redirects. Ask the School of Nursing before planning around them. The MSN-to-DNP guide covers the program that is recruiting.
Which Ohio University programs admit in the spring?
The FNP and PMHNP program pages show spring and fall starts, while the AG-ACNP, the NP certificates and the DNP show fall in the catalog. Some pages disagree, so check the program page when you apply.
Do certificate students need preceptors right away?
Often, yes. Ohio University's PMHNP certificate page says current APRNs will usually move straight into a clinical course and should have possible preceptors and sites in mind when applying. See the certificate guides.
