Contact the placement desk
Tell the placement desk which Ohio University program you are in, which NRSE practicum still lacks a preceptor, the term, your city and how many hours remain. This page's form lands directly with the placement desk, and a placement advisor replies by email, phone or text with next steps.
Message the placement desk
Program, course, semester and city let your placement advisor reply with specifics.

What to include in your message
A few specific details turn a general inquiry into a search your placement advisor can start on right away. Put these in the message box:
- Your Ohio University program and track, such as the MSN FNP track, the RN-to-BSN or a post-master's PMHNP certificate.
- The NRSE course number, for example
NRSE 6841,NRSE 6844,NRSE 6847,NRSE 8921orNRSE 4595. - The semester and year the course runs.
- Where you live (city and state) and your limit for clinical-day driving.
- The hours you still need, if the course has already started.
- Clinicians or sites you have contacted so far, with their answers.
- The date you are working toward: your clinical packet deadline or a hospital system's application window.
A short line does the job, for example: "FNP, NRSE 6841, Summer 2027, Dayton, Ohio, 250 hours, two practices already asked." Your placement advisor follows up on anything else.
If your course has already started
Say so in the first line, with the number of hours still owed and what changed. A preceptor who has stepped away, a site that paused students, or a schedule that no longer fits the semester all call for a different search than a fresh placement, and your placement advisor plans around the weeks remaining. If your current preceptor can still offer some days, mention that too; it changes how much the new search has to cover.
Tell your faculty and clinical supervisor what has happened as well, since Ohio University approves every preceptor and any replacement has to go through that step. Our guides for a preceptor who dropped out and falling behind on hours cover the first moves to make while we search.
What happens after you send it
- Your message reaches the placement deskForm, chat and WhatsApp messages all arrive at the same desk, so pick whichever is easiest.
- A placement advisor reviews your course and calendarThey look at the setting your NRSE course needs, the area you gave and any deadline or hospital window in play.
- You get a reply with questions or a planWhere the details are complete, the reply sets out the proposed search and a quote. Where something is missing, it asks for that first.
- You decide how to proceedTake the time you need. Many students compare our plan with Ohio University's own routes before choosing.
Replies go out as soon as the desk reaches your message. Putting your packet deadline or hospital window in the first line helps your placement advisor put time-sensitive searches first.
Chat and WhatsApp
The chat button sits on every page of this site and suits quick questions: whether we cover your track, how early to start, what a quote depends on. You can also message the placement desk on WhatsApp or by text from the links on the site, which is handy if you would rather write between shifts than fill in a form.
Every channel reaches the same placement desk, and your placement advisor keeps the thread together, so you can start in the chat and continue by email without repeating yourself. If you prefer a call, include your phone number in the form and mention the best time to reach you.
Keep sensitive documents for later
Share only what the search needs at this stage; a course number and a city are far more useful in a first message than any document. Leave health records, immunization documents, background-check results and insurance certificates out of the form and chat. When a site later asks for a specific compliance item, you will hear exactly which document it wants and how to send it.
Anything you send is handled under our privacy policy: it goes toward arranging your placement, clinicians see only the details relevant to precepting you, and you can ask for deletion at any time.
Questions only Ohio University can answer
Some questions belong with the university, and it helps to send them to the right place from the start. The School of Nursing inbox, graduatenursing@ohio.edu, is Ohio University's published contact for graduate clinical placement and paperwork questions. It also handles requests for the Graduate Nursing Student Handbook and for the clinical overview sheets and preceptor packet.
Course questions go to your faculty and assigned clinical supervisor, and registration questions to your School of Nursing academic advisor, who registers you each semester based on your program of study. For dates, the Important Dates page in the Nursing Knowledge Center is the official list. The who does what page lists each role.
Questions Ohio University students ask
When should I expect a reply?
Your message is answered by a placement advisor as soon as the desk reaches it. If time is tight, open with that fact and name the date you are working toward, such as your clinical packet deadline. For anything urgent, the chat is often the quickest way in.
Should I wait until I am admitted before writing?
There is no need to wait. Planning before admission is common, particularly for APRNs joining a post-master's certificate, since Ohio University's PMHNP certificate page expects many of them to begin a clinical course in their very first semester. Share the track you plan to enter and the term of your first practicum, and your placement advisor maps its packet deadline.
I'm a clinician open to precepting. Where do I start?
Use this same form and select "I'm a preceptor (not a student)" from the program list, then tell us your specialty, where you practice and which semesters suit you. The preceptor page explains what Ohio University's courses ask of a preceptor. We introduce students whose course fits your setting.
What if I do not know my exact course number?
Give us your program and the semester, and your placement advisor works out the course with you. Your program of study, your Canvas course list or your DARS degree audit will show the NRSE number if you want to check first.
Is it fine to just ask a question?
Of course. Many messages are simple questions about timing, settings or what a quote covers. Your placement advisor answers them, and you decide later whether you want a search started. Asking commits you to nothing, and the answer may be all you need to plan your next step.
