Who we are
Ohio Preceptor is an independent placement desk with one focus: Ohio University's nursing students and the clinical process they work within. Our placement advisors search for preceptors and sites that fit each student's NRSE course, close to where the student lives, and assemble what the School of Nursing's clinical packet requires about each preceptor and site.
We speak Ohio University's language because this desk is built around its clinical process. The clinical packet, the clinical overview sheets and preceptor packet, Typhon, Canvas, the Nursing Knowledge Center, the Graduate Clinical Coordinator and the on-campus intensives in Dublin are the everyday vocabulary of our desk. Our students come from the online graduate programs, from MSN NP tracks and post-master's certificates to the Emergency NP certificate and the MSN-to-DNP, and from the RN-to-BSN.
Why one university
Ohio University's model gives students real choice. Its MSN FAQ permits students to identify their own preceptors with faculty approval, with the Graduate Clinical Coordinator available to help facilitate. That freedom comes with a calendar that rewards anyone who knows it well: three clinical packet deadlines a year, separate application windows for four Ohio hospital systems, one clinical course per semester once FNP and PMHNP students reach clinicals, and AG-ACNP practicums offered once a year each.
A desk that works inside one university's process learns its details thoroughly. We know which course comes next in each sequence, which settings Ohio University names for each track, where its own pages disagree and when each deadline falls. That depth is what we offer every student, and it shows in the first conversation: your placement advisor already knows the course you are asking about.
How we work
Every search starts with the course. Your placement advisor asks which NRSE practicum needs a preceptor and plans backward from your packet deadline, or from a hospital window if one applies.
- In person, close to home: we search the student's own area first, in the settings the course calls for.
- Confirmed before introduced: each preceptor's interest, days and site requirements are checked before the student hears a name.
- Prepared for approval: credentials, license information and site details are gathered in packet order.
- On call all semester: a preceptor who leaves mid-course sets off a new search that same week.

Our standards
- Accuracy to Ohio University's own pages. Our guides are written from the catalog, program pages and Nursing Knowledge Center, and each one lists its sources and the date it was checked.
- Conflicts shown, not smoothed over. Where Ohio University's pages disagree, as with Emergency NP hours (450 in the catalog, 500 on the program page), we show both and point you to the source.
- Confidentiality. What you tell us is used to arrange your placement, and a clinician or site sees just enough to decide whether to take you on.
- Respect for Ohio University's decisions. Faculty approve every preceptor and site; we see to it that the file in front of them is whole and suits the course.
- Clear quotes. Each quote describes its scope in writing before you decide, as the cost page explains.
- Straight answers on timing. If a hospital window has closed for your term, we tell you plainly and move to the routes still open.
Where the final word sits
Our pages are guides to Ohio University's process, and Ohio University remains the authority on it. For your course, your syllabus and your faculty decide. For program rules, the Graduate Nursing Student Handbook governs; it is not posted publicly, and the School of Nursing sends it on request to graduatenursing@ohio.edu. For deadlines, the Nursing Knowledge Center's Important Dates page is the source we check against.

We work for you, the student, inside that process: finding and confirming preceptors, preparing the details faculty review and staying on call through the semester.
