Ohio University nursing clinicals for Nevada residents
As of September 2026, Nevada residents can apply to Ohio University's online graduate nursing programs and to its RN-to-BSN. Clinicals are where Nevada turns strict: the state stands outside the Nurse Licensure Compact, its Board expects a Nevada license from anyone caring for Nevada patients, and its rules place online programs' clinical teaching behind Board approval.

Nevada on Ohio University's lists
Graduate applicants must live in an approved state and hold an unrestricted RN license there. Nevada has counted since 2019, and the provost's disclosures mark it as meeting requirements for the MSN, certificate and DNP. All four of the RN-to-BSN's conflicting state lists include Nevada too. Nevada's license rule has no compact exception
Nevada sits outside the Nurse Licensure Compact, with no bill pending according to the compact's map. A Nevada State Board of Nursing practice decision is blunt: nursing care for patients located in Nevada calls for a license from Nevada's own board, and hands-on nursing education appears among the covered activities. A multistate license from Arizona, Utah or any other compact state does not carry over to a Nevada site.
Because a Nevada license is single-state, a resident training over the line in Arizona or Utah would need that state's license, and neither state is on Ohio University's application list. The RN license guide walks through the combinations.

Board approval for online programs under NAC 632.703
Nevada's regulation reaches any nursing program running part of itself inside the state. That program reports to the Board on its form, backed by accreditation or approval, proof that it follows the state's nursing statute and regulations, and yearly school reports. An Internet or other nontraditional program may not offer clinical instruction in Nevada until the Board says yes, and anyone teaching in Nevada must hold a Nevada license.
Nothing in the regulation separates pre-licensure from post-licensure or graduate programs. The Board's current list of schools from other states cleared for clinical teaching alone, updated 9/1/2026, shows only pre-licensure ADN and BSN programs, leaving graduate NP programs unaddressed. Any filing is Ohio University's; ask faculty whether Nevada clinicals are cleared before you commit to a preceptor.
How precepting works under the Nevada Board
A 2005 Board practice decision lays down the ground rules. Faculty direct every student clinical experience and remain reachable while you train; a preceptor takes two students at most, at the same time, and stays physically on site; and the program gives preceptors an orientation and written objectives.
Full practice is AANP's rating for Nevada, with a prescribing wrinkle. Until an NP logs two years, or 2,000 hours, of clinical experience, Schedule II drugs are off the table except under a protocol a physician has approved. Las Vegas, Reno and the trips east
Greater Las Vegas, including Henderson and North Las Vegas, holds 2,407,226 people, Reno 578,734 and Carson City 58,571. University Medical Center of Southern Nevada is the academic medical center; Sunrise Health System belongs to HCA Healthcare, a Universal Health Services subsidiary runs The Valley Health System, Dignity Health operates hospitals in Las Vegas and Henderson, and Renown Health rounds out the largest names.
NP students also fly to Dublin, Ohio, for a handful of short on-campus intensives. Give your preceptor those dates early; the intensives page lists them for 2026-27.

Can a Nevada FNP take Ohio University's Emergency NP certificate?
Yes, if you live in an approved state such as Nevada, hold FNP licensure and keep ACLS current. Its practicums, NRSE 6857, NRSE 6858 and NRSE 6859, happen in a hospital or emergency care facility, and Ohio University's pages disagree on the total: 450 hours in the catalog, 500 on the program page. Is Ohio University's RN-to-BSN open to Nevada nurses?
Yes, on current pages: all four RN-to-BSN state lists name Nevada. Its two clinical courses total 31.5 hours, and because an RN-to-BSN preceptor must be licensed in the same state as both student and facility, a Nevada site means a Nevada-licensed preceptor. Can my Nevada preceptor supervise another student alongside me?
Up to a point. The Board's 2005 practice decision lets a preceptor supervise two students at a time, on site with both. If your preceptor already hosts a student from another program, you would fill the second and final slot. Mention it, since faculty approve the arrangement.
Why does my Ohio University faculty member need a Nevada license?
Ohio University's licensure disclosure says Nevada wants faculty licensed in the state, and NAC 632.703 requires Nevada licenses for anyone teaching there. That falls to the University, but it is another reason to confirm a Nevada placement early.
