Wyoming and Ohio University nursing, list by list
Wyoming nurses can look at Ohio University's online RN-to-BSN, whose state lists all name Wyoming, but not its graduate programs: as of September 2026 Wyoming sits outside the 28 approved states. For RN-to-BSN clinicals, the Wyoming State Board of Nursing wants written notice from the program and a signed facility contract.

Wyoming across Ohio University's lists
Ohio University's two sets of lists answer differently. The graduate list of 28 approved states leaves it off, and the provost's disclosures mark Wyoming "No" for the MSN, certificate and DNP. The RN-to-BSN lists all carry it, from the program page's 32 states plus DC down to the shortest course-page version. Of Wyoming's six neighbors, only Montana is an approved graduate state.

Notice, contract, registration: Wyoming's Chapter 6
Wyoming sorts out-of-state programs by level. Chapter 6 of the Board's rules opens with a gate for all of them: registration with the state's Department of Education, or NC-SARA approval instead. (The Ohio Department of Higher Education approved Ohio University's NC-SARA participation.) Post-licensure programs, RN-to-BSN, MSN, DNP and APRN study among them, then bypass Board approval. In its place come two duties: telling the Board in writing whenever one of its students is headed for a Wyoming clinical, for which the Board supplies a model cover letter, and signing a facility contract, copy held for the Board, before any clinical day.
Ohio University's own RN-to-BSN disclosure words this more strictly, noting that Wyoming "Requires Board of Nursing and Department of Education written approval." The two sources differ in emphasis. Ask Ohio University early how it handles Wyoming placements, since the facility contract has to exist before your course opens.
The common slip: naming a Wyoming site only weeks before the course, when the facility contract has to be signed before clinicals start.
Full practice across a thinly settled state
AANP classes Wyoming as full practice for nurse practitioners. Towns are small by most measures: 2025 Census estimates give greater Cheyenne roughly 103,000 residents, Casper close to 81,000 and Gillette's micropolitan area near 48,000. Hospitals students look at include Sheridan Memorial Hospital, Casper's Banner Wyoming Medical Center (Banner Health is based in Arizona), Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, Laramie's Ivinson Memorial Hospital, affiliated with UCHealth, and Campbell County Health in Gillette.
The RN-to-BSN does not need a hospital for its first clinical. NRSE 4585 asks for a community-based site that sees patients across the lifespan, and Ohio University's own examples include rural health clinics, local health departments, home health agencies and mobile clinics. No state preceptor incentive for Wyoming turned up in our research.
Licenses for a Wyoming clinical
Compact membership for Wyoming dates to January 19, 2018. Its APRN Compact law sits in Title 33 of the Wyoming Statutes, making it one of just five enacting states; the compact runs only once seven have signed on.
For RN-to-BSN students, Ohio University's preceptor rule is the one to meet: at minimum a nursing bachelor's, licensure active in both your state and the facility's, and no close family relationship. The Board's own requirement of an active, unencumbered Wyoming or multistate license for preceptors and faculty giving patient care is written for pre-licensure programs. Is Ohio University's RN-to-BSN available in Wyoming?
Every version of the RN-to-BSN state list names Wyoming: the program, eligibility and OHIO Online pages, the contact page, and the course pages for NRSE 4585, NRSE 4595 and NRSE 4600. Because Ohio University's lists disagree about other states, confirm your eligibility with an advisor before you enroll.
Does the Wyoming Board have to approve my RN-to-BSN clinical?
The Board's education page says post-licensure programs need no Board approval but must notify it in writing and hold a signed facility contract before clinicals. Ohio University's disclosure speaks of written approval from the Board and the Department of Education. Either way, the program handles it; ask Ohio University about timing.
Can I apply to Ohio University's MSN from Wyoming?
Not as of September 2026. Ohio University's MSN tracks admit nurses residing in an approved state, 28 in all, whose RN license from that state is valid and unrestricted, and Wyoming is outside that group. Montana, next door, is. Recheck before a move.
Can my RN-to-BSN clinical be at the Wyoming hospital where I work?
For the capstone, Ohio University allows your workplace if the project can be implemented into direct clinical practice. NRSE 4585 needs a community-based site with patients of all ages, so confirm your workplace fits that first. In Wyoming, the program's contract with the facility must also be signed before you start.
