Registering your preceptorship with the Alaska Board of Nursing

Ohio University's disclosure puts Alaska's rule in two sentences: the state "Requires preceptors with appropriate credentials. Students must apply for preceptorship with the AK board." The regulation behind it, 12 AAC 44.460, makes this a personal registration, separate from anything the program holds.

Each sets its own student rules, and big systems often want a central request filed early (hospital system applications).

License, compact and faculty rules in Alaska

Alaska stays outside the Nurse Licensure Compact. The board describes two bills to join as pending in the 2025-2026 legislature, so today a multistate license carries no privilege in Alaska. For APRN students the registration above is the path, and it accepts a clean RN license from another state.

Ohio University's clinical faculty face a separate trigger: they need an Alaska RN license once grading Alaska clinicals, plus any other teaching or consulting in the state, exceeds 20 working days within one licensing period. Yes. Alaska holds a spot on the approved list (checked September 2026), which opens the MSN FNP to any Alaska resident with a clean, valid RN license. Classes are online; the 750 practicum hours are done in Alaska under a preceptor faculty approve. Recheck it before applying.

Is there a fee for Alaska's APRN preceptorship registration?

Yes. Form 08-4253 carries a non-refundable fee, and the Alaska Board of Nursing prints the current amount on the form itself. Registrations run a year at most, so ask whether renewal is charged separately and plan both into your clinical-year budget.

Can Alaska nurses enroll in Ohio University's RN-to-BSN?

Yes. Alaska shows up on each RN-to-BSN state list. Clinical work is modest, 31.5 hours split across NRSE 4585 and NRSE 4595, at an Alaska site of your choosing.
