Connecticut is on the MSN application page and the graduate hub, the provost's disclosures mark it "Yes" in all three graduate tables, and every RN-to-BSN list includes it. It entered Ohio University's graduate footprint in the 2019 expansion to 22 new states. Lists can move, so confirm with Ohio University before you apply or relocate.

The three-year collaboration rule and who can precept you

AANP rates Connecticut full practice, with a condition attached: an NP first practices collaboratively with a physician for 2,000 hours or more, spread over no fewer than three years. That gives you two kinds of NP preceptor. A veteran past the threshold may run an independent practice, while a newer NP still works alongside a collaborating physician, whose arrangement you join as a student.

Ohio University decides whether a newer NP qualifies, at faculty approval, against criteria in the Graduate Nursing Student Handbook and preceptor packet. Connecticut's education rules, written for first-licensure programs

Nursing oversight in Connecticut runs through the Board of Examiners for Nursing, which sits under the state's public health department. The state's education regulations target programs leading to initial licensure and say nothing direct about APRN programs like Ohio University's. They still show what Connecticut clinical agencies are used to from schools:

A written contract between the school and the agency.
At most two students per preceptor and a 1-to-16 faculty ratio for precepted students, while faculty keep responsibility for grading.
Preceptors of advanced-level students with a nursing bachelor's degree, two or more years in the role or specialty, and an active RN license from Connecticut or the state where the precepting happens.
On-site clinical faculty of out-of-state programs licensed as Connecticut RNs.

Ohio University's disclosure makes the same last point in four words, "Clinical faculty must be licensed in CT," a requirement that falls on the School of Nursing and your assigned clinical supervisor.

Compact licensing since October 2025, and where students look

Connecticut's Nurse Licensure Compact membership went live on October 1, 2025. Since then, the Department of Public Health says an RN student may train on either a Connecticut-issued license or a multistate one from the student's compact home state, which simplifies things for anyone who moved in from another compact state. About 1.17 million people live in greater Hartford, roughly 978,000 in Bridgeport-Stamford-Danbury, 579,000 around New Haven and 463,000 in Waterbury-Shelton. NP students research the UConn Health system, the Hartford HealthCare network, Trinity Health Of New England's hospitals, Yale New Haven Health and Northwell Health, the New York system that took over former Nuvance hospitals like Danbury Hospital. Larger systems usually steer students into a central request process.

Questions Ohio University students ask

Can I take Ohio University's online AG-ACNP from Connecticut?

Yes. Connecticut residency plus a valid, unrestricted RN license satisfies the admission rule as of September 2026, and the MSN AG-ACNP admits once a year, in the fall. Its practicums, NRSE 6843 through NRSE 6845, total 750 hours in acute care, so Connecticut hospital units with NP or physician preceptors are the natural targets.

Could Connecticut's two-students-per-preceptor limit affect me?

Possibly, though indirectly. The ratio sits in regulations written for first-licensure programs, so it may not bind an APRN program like Ohio University's. A Connecticut preceptor who already teaches students from a local school may be near that limit anyway, so ask early whether there is room for you in your semester before you plan around that clinician.

Can I do clinicals in New York or Massachusetts while living in Connecticut?

Check carefully. New York sits outside the compact and is not on Ohio University's approved list, and no ohio.edu page says whether clinicals may happen in a state off that list. Massachusetts is an approved state that has enacted the compact, with implementation targeted for May 2027, so a Connecticut multistate license does not yet reach there. See the Massachusetts page.

Which Connecticut settings fit Ohio University's FNP practicums?

The MSN FAQ steers FNP students toward primary-care offices or hospital/community-based clinics, and NRSE 6840, NRSE 6841 and NRSE 6842 cover individuals and families across the lifespan.
