Ohio University Nursing Clinicals in Indiana
Indiana was one of six states Ohio University's online graduate nursing programs served before 2019, and it is still on the approved list in September 2026. Indiana's board leaves graduate programs to their accreditors, so your clinical search turns on sites and preceptors, and, near the state's edges, on the rules of Illinois and Kentucky.

Indiana residents and Ohio University's programs
Indiana-resident RNs with a valid, unencumbered license may apply for Ohio University's graduate nursing tracks, and the provost's licensure review finds the MSN, certificate and DNP all meet Indiana's requirements. Confirm the list with Ohio University before relocating or applying. Once clinicals start, you can propose your own preceptor for faculty approval or bring in the Graduate Clinical Coordinator to help.

What the Indiana State Board of Nursing oversees
Indiana's Board of Nursing works within the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency. It says it "accredits all nursing programs operating in the State of Indiana preparing individuals for initial licensure" as RNs or LPNs, and it places RN-BSN and all graduate nursing programs outside its review. Its eligible-program rule, 848 IAC 1-2-4, deals only with pre-licensure RN and PN programs.
In practice, research found no Board step for a graduate or RN-to-BSN program based in another state that sends students to Indiana sites. Two approvals remain: Ohio University's, since faculty approve every preceptor and site individually, and the facility's, which sometimes means a signed agreement between the facility and Ohio University; see how affiliation agreements work.
Collaboration and licensing in Indiana
Indiana NPs must keep a regulated physician collaboration covering at least one part of their practice, which is why AANP labels the state reduced practice. That arrangement shapes your preceptor's day, not their eligibility to teach you, which Ohio University faculty judge for each course.
Compact licenses have worked in Indiana since July 1, 2020, so a multistate license belonging to an Indiana resident covers training in Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the other member states. The APRN Compact is separate; Indiana has not enacted it, and it needs seven states before it runs.
Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and the border metros
Systems students here tend to ask include Parkview Health, Ascension St. Vincent, Indiana University Health, Franciscan Health and Community Health Network, with Baptist Health also serving Southern Indiana. Can Indiana nurses apply to Ohio University's online PMHNP?
Yes, as of September 2026, if you live in Indiana and hold a valid, unencumbered RN license. The PMHNP's three practicums, NRSE 6846 through NRSE 6848, total 750 hours, usually in community mental health, correctional, school-based or substance-abuse treatment settings according to Ohio University's MSN FAQ.
Does Ohio University's program meet Indiana's licensure requirements?
Ohio University's provost office rates its MSN, certificate and DNP as meeting Indiana's requirements. Indiana's board stays out of graduate program review, so that answer rests on Ohio University's own reading of Indiana rules, revisited annually or after a rule change. Ohio University also tells students to contact their home board before enrolling.
Can I train at a Louisville site while living in Southern Indiana?
Your license travels: Indiana and Kentucky are both compact members, so an Indiana resident's multistate RN license works in Kentucky. The preceptor is the checkpoint, because KBN expects anyone precepting an online APRN student in Kentucky to hold a Kentucky APRN license. Baptist Health spans both sides of the river, so confirm which state a given site is in.
Does an Indiana NP need anything special to precept me?
No extra Indiana preceptor requirement for out-of-state graduate programs turned up in research; an Indiana NP precepts on their own Indiana credentials under a collaborative agreement.
